Paper Stocks
Gloss and Satin paper stocks.
- Gloss and satin finishes refer to the quality of the paper; gloss and satin does NOT refer to a coating that is placed upon the brochure or flyer after it has been printed.
- Gloss paper shines, but if you have ink covering all of the paper, then the shine will disappear.
- Satin paper is a bit brighter than matt, but if you have ink covering all of the paper, then the satin finish will disappear.
The main reason for selecting gloss or satin paper is the effect that it has on the ink.
- Gloss tend to make the ink look a bit brighter.
- Satin tends to be neutral (i.e.: it does not make the colours brighter).
Folded (or multi-page) brochures, leaflets, brochures and pamphlets are printed on several paper stocks.
Offset printed multi-page brochures, leaflets, brochures and pamphlets are printed on a number of stocks that include:
- 150gsm Gloss recycled paper. This paper is 55% recycled paper, and the other 45% comes from 100% sustainable plantation paper.
- 150gsm Gloss sustainable plantation paper. This paper is 100% sustainable plantation paper, and the paper comes from sustainable plantations.
- 200gsm Gloss sustainable plantation paper. This is, as the name suggests, sustainable plantation stock.
- 310gsm Satin Art Board sustainable plantation paper. This paper is 100% sustainable plantation paper, and the paper comes from sustainable plantations.
- 350gsm Satin recycled paper. This paper is 55% recycled paper, and the other 45% comes from 100% sustainable plantation paper.
Digitally printed multi-page brochures, leaflets, brochures and pamphlets are printed on 100% sustainable plantation paper, and the available paper weights range from 120gsm to 300gsm. All digitally printed stocks are available in both a gloss and satin finish.
Folding
All folded (or multi-page) brochures, leaflets, flyers and pamphlets must be folded — they must be, as they are "folded brochures, leaflets, flyers and pamphlets".
You select the type of folding that you want when you place your order, and the types of folds available are:

| 4-page brochures can only be folded in one way; that is, folded in half. | 6-page brochures can be folded with a "Z-fold" or "Roll-fold" (also termed an "Gate-fold"). | 8-page brochures can be "concertina-folded", "four-panel-folded", "gate-folded, and "roll-folded". |
Folded brochures, leaflets, pamphlets and flyers that are printed on paper stocks that are less than 205gsm are scored and folded. They are then sent to you.
Folded brochures, leaflets, pamphlets and flyers that are printed on paper stocks that are greater than 205gsm are scored and sent to you flat. The reason for not folding these paper stocks is simple: they travel to you better when unfolded.
Why bleeds are important on printing flyers
If your file is going to have any background colours, images or text that will be printing right to the very edge of the page, then please make sure that all pages have bleeds.
The greatest advantage of understanding bleeds are:
- There is a 35-40% chance that your job will have problems if you do not understand bleeds. Alternately;
- There is a 60-65% chance that your job will not have a single problem if you do understand bleeds.
